School Manager Cyber Safety Interface Guide

This guide is for school leadership and wellbeing staff.

School Manager's Cyber Safety section helps school leadership and wellbeing staff as they guide students in appropriate web activities. The reports give an overview of online activity with links to details that can be used to investigate the online activities.

Overview Page

The Overview page is a summary of the optional standards you can set for Groups in your school. The compliance standards are set in the Activity and Compliance page. The summary includes activity for school-managed and legacy student-supplied devices.

You can click on the name of the Group to go to the Activity and Compliance page. If you do not have an Overview or Activity and Compliance page, contact Linewize Support.

Activity and Compliance Report

The optional Activity and Compliance page displays charts you can use to compare the categories of Expected behavior for a Group to their Actual online activities. Up to 8 categories can be added to an Expected ratio of categories. Expected and Actual results do not limit a user’s connection to the school’s network.

The report displays the Groups you have permission to monitor. You can hover over a section to see the category title and details. You can hide a category by clicking on the category name. You can click again to show the category name. If you Edit the Expected ratios and categories, the data is changed for all School Manager users looking at this group of Users.

Red Flags Report

The Red Flags list is a list of top users with the highest number of blocked attempts to access risky content. The list is based on the selected date range and can be filtered for specific categories of Red Flags.

The red-color indicates this user attempted to access this category 5% more than all other users during this time period. You can select the Username to go to their Dashboard and look at their overall online activity.

Searches Report

The Searches report displays the top search terms used in Google, Bing, and YouTube search. The report requires Connect for Chrome or your IT support to enable the inspection of traffic when other versions of Connect are installed on your users’ devices.

The Searches report allows you to change the date range, select categories of search terms, and increase or decrease the number of top keywords displayed. You can sort the list by Username, Full Name or the total number of queries. A bar shows you the relative number of searches by user.

Videos Report

The Videos report displays the most frequently watched YouTube videos for the selected date range. The summary shows a thumbnail, the video title, and a count of the number of views during this time period.

You can click on a video title to see the video details and which users watched the video. The detail includes the IP or MAC address of the device and the time the video was viewed.

Blocked Reports

The Blocked report displays a count of the number of times users and Apps and Websites were blocked and the count of the number of times filtering rules were active. The top six blocked Applications and Websites, and blocked users help you assess the ratio of most frequently blocked activities.

You can click on the linked item in the first column to see more detail:

  • Username on the Users page takes you to the User’s Dashboard
  • Application on the Apps page takes you to the Applications and Websites page
  • Policy on the Policies takes you to see a list of users who were blocked from that category of content
