Configuring Linewize Connect for Chrome

This article is intended for IT Administrators and assumes administrator-level access to your school's Google Workspace account  

This guide explains how to configure Google Workspace to force-install the Linewize Connect for Chrome - Education extension and how to configure School Manager to work with the extension.

Configuring Google Workspace

  1. Sign in to Google Admin Console.
  2. Select Devices > Chrome > Apps & extensions >  Users & browsers.
  3.  Select the organizational unit you want to deploy the extension to.

Note: If you want to deploy the extension for all users, including staff and teachers, highlight the top-level organizational unit for your school.

  1.  Hover over the  yellow + icon.

  2. Select  Add Chrome app or extension by ID.

  3. Copy and paste the following Extension ID into the Extension ID field.
    Extension ID: ddfbkhpmcdbciejenfcolaaiebnjcbfc

  4. Select From the Chrome Web Store in the dropdown list below the extension ID.
  5. Select Save.


  6.  On the next screen, select the Installation policy dropdown list and select Force install + pin to browser toolbar.


  7. On the right side panel, select the Permissions and URL access dropdown and select Allow all permissions.


  8. Select Save in the upper right corner of the screen.


Configuring School Manager

There are three steps to configuring School Manager to work with the Connect for Chrome - Education extension:

  1. Enable Chrome Extension Authentication
  2. Configure On School Network behaviour
  3. Configure Off School Network behaviour

Enabling Chrome Extension Authentication

  1. Sign in to School Manager.
  2. Enable Google Authentication.
  3. Ensure Use FZ Auth API and Allow Chrome Extension Authentication are selected.

Note: Chromebook-only schools must select Enable Browser Extension for Chromebooks Only. The Connect extension installed on non-Chromebook devices will be disabled.

  1. Navigate to Debugging > Device Options.
  2. Select Enable Browser Extension for Chromebooks Only under Agent.
  1. Go to Configuration > Mobile Agent.


Configuring On School Manager Network

Note: It is only necessary to configure On Network if you have a physical appliance, otherwise everything is Off Network.

  1. Go to Configuration > Mobile Agent.
  2. Under On School Manager Network, select Filtering Enabled. This will enable filtering students when they are on campus.
  3. If you want to force Safe Search, select Google, Bing, and YouTube.
  4. If you want to enable Classwize, select Classroom Enabled.
  5. Select Save.


Configuring Off School Manager Network

Warning: Enabling Off School Manager Network filtering can have unintended consequences and may violate your school or district’s policies.

Contact a Linewize Account Manager and Service Delivery Engineer before enabling Off School Manager Network.

  1. Stay on or go to Configuration > Mobile Agent.
  2. Under Off School Manager Network select Filtering Enabled. This will enable filtering students when they are off campus.
  3. If you want to force Safe Search, select Google, Bing, and YouTube.
  4. If you want to enable Classwize, select Classroom Enabled.
  5. Select Save.
